Ernesto Rodriguez Sr.
Ernesto Rodriguez has been a resident of DMV since 1985 where he served his community through his time as boxer, father, police officer, and minister. He is working on developing an online boxing/athletic/faith-based ministry which will provide him with a platform to combine his faith, family, and community values into a platform to spread the word of God.
Rodriguez’ started his boxing journey in 1989. As an amateur he won several Golden Gloves championships and two national tournaments. In 1997 Rodriguez progressed to become an undefeated professional fighter. In 2003 he was inducted into the Washington, DC Boxing Hall of Fame and in 2001 he retired from professional boxing and became a trainer. In 2017 he made history as the first trainer to develop Hillcrests’ first world champion Jarrett Hurd. Hurd later won two additional belts and became Unified World Champion under Rodriguez’ instruction. Today, Rodriguez is a volunteer boxing trainer at the Hillcrest Boys & Girls Club where he mentors youth and young adults.
